More Eggs

A few days after I found that stash, I found more eggs hidden under some branches of a tree. Same size and shape eggs. Same hen.

It's like an Easter egg hunt. Except not as fun.

I had an idea that I would swap out the real eggs with a couple of wooden eggs. Then if she laid more eggs I would at least know where to look. The last photo is the wooden eggs.

But no luck. She hasn't gone back to that same spot. So I'm back to hunting for them in the woods if I ever see her outside the fencing.

  1. Is that a snake in the first picture?! 😮 Tom killed SIX snakes just last week that were in and around our coop. They were big and fat. And, yes, sometimes our chickens decide to forsake the coop and find a new hiding place to lay their eggs. I noticed that our Americaunas are particularly prone to hiding theirs. The hay baler is a favorite, so we know to always check there. Every once in a while we do a "reset" and keep them locked up in their yard for several days in a row so they'll forget that they had other ideas.

    1. I hope that wasn't a snake! There's no way I could have taken the picture if I'd seen it. I finally clipped some wings and that's helped the problem.
