White Iris

One of my cousins sent me a rhizome of a white iris last year. I had never even heard the word "rhizome" so before I could follow her directions I had to get the dictionary out. It looked like a piece of ginger to me.

Here's what Merriam-Webster says:
noun \ rhi·zome \ˈrī-ˌzōm\
a somewhat elongate usually horizontal subterranean plant stem that is often thickened by deposits of reserve food material, produces shoots above and roots below, and is distinguished from a true root in possessing buds, nodes, and usually scalelike leaves

So this picture is for her, to let her know I set it out and it flowered this spring!
