Recently our Son moved back home for awhile to save some money. He brought most of his things from his apartment with him (some went to Goodwill). We used our truck and made several trips. We've been trying to find places for everything ever since.
We've had this happen several times, when the children lived on their own and then moved back home. They always bring more things home than they left with. So over the years we've acquired extra things that have no place.
Around the same time our college Daughter was packing up for another year in Florida. When she saw Son's couch, she thought it would be perfect for her dorm room's common area. I thought, there's no way.
She kept persistently asking about it, so finally I suggested she use a tape measure and measure both the couch and her car space. She has a small SUV with good storage space especially when the second row seats are flat. To my surprise, it came within an inch of fitting.
So then we had to try putting the couch in her car and seeing if the doors would shut and she could still sit comfortably in the driver's seat. To my amazement, it fit and the rear hatch closed and she could still get in the driver's seat.
Once the couch was in, it was a packing puzzle to get all the rest of her things to fit. I enjoyed the challenge. Our strategy was to have lots of small bags rather than large boxes or tubs. We used every available inch: under the couch, behind the couch, on the couch.
And again to both our amazement, everything she wanted to take, fit.
